High Level Description  
This master’s thesis aims to define what designing for the sharing economy means in practice and in the context of outdoor products. The project is carried out in collaboration between Dometic and Knightec.   

Project Description  
Dometic is committed to driving sustainability in the industry. Embedding circular design thinking and approaches is a key element to achieving meaningful sustainability impact. 

Products that are easy to upgrade, service, and repair benefit both users and the environment by extending product lifetime and making them suitable for a sharing economy such as rentals and pre-owned. Achieving this requires smart mechanical solutions and thoughtful design that make maintenance intuitive, efficient, and accessible. 

This project focuses on standalone products such as cool boxes, tents, mobile cooking and outdoor furniture. 

You will conduct user studies to understand current needs and challenges. Based on these insights, you will develop new design concepts and mechanical solutions to increase suitability for the sharing economy opportunities.  

Who are we looking for?  

• M.Sc. students in Product development/ Industrial design engineering/Mechanical engineering/Circular design or equivalent  
• Graduation in June 2026 
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.  
• Passion for Product development and Circular design 
• Applying as a pair is encouraged 

Purpose  
The purpose of this research is to identify design opportunities for durability, modularity, upgradability and repairability of products in a sharing economy.

Practical Information
