High Level Description
In response to corporate sustainability goals and evolving government regulations, there is a growing emphasis on reducing energy consumption in office environments. While energy efficient electronics are now commonplace, the exploration of energy-autonomous electronics for use in the office remains limited. This project aims to design and create a self-powered reservation status display using existing components to drive sustainability in the workplace. Through design, fabrication, and testing, this project seeks to understand the capabilities and limitations of self-powered office electronics and their potential to improve energy efficiency.
Project Description
This project focuses on developing a self-powered display for use in an office/school environment. The key objectives include:
- System Design: Utilize electronic design software to design a new self-powered system with suitable hardware and energy generation methods.
- Component Selection: Select components based on the design, their sustainability and budget requirements.
- Assembly: Purchase and assemble a self-designed PCB and selected components, focusing on ease of assembly and minimizing energy usage.
- Testing and Validation: Rigorously test the system to assess performance, reliability, component lifetime and electrical characteristics.
- Iteration and Improvement: Refine designs and components based on testing results to enhance component functionality and improve sustainability.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a master's student with a background in Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems or related fields to join our project. While prior experience with PCB design, electrical sensors, and sustainability is advantageous, it is not a strict requirement. The ideal candidate should have:
- An interest in electronics design, embedded systems and sustainability.
- Motivation to engage in hands-on experimental work, including design, fabrication, and testing.
- Eagerness to contribute to research to develop new applications and reduce day-to-day energy usage.
- Fluency in Swedish, both written and spoken
Purpose
The primary purpose of this project is to develop applications for new advancements in sustainable electronics in an office environment. By developing new use cases with existing components, we aim to facilitate the future development of innovative ways to reduce energy consumption. This deeper understanding may unlock new possibilities for reducing the carbon footprint of office spaces, thereby contributing significant advancements in the field of sustainable electronics.
The completed thesis project can be published and used in your personal portfolio as well as in company marketing. Please include your Resumé/CV and cover letter in your application.
