High Level Description
In a cross-disciplinary collaboration between Hydroscand, Knightec, and the fields of product development and sustainability, this master’s thesis explores how improved information gathering can strengthen sustainability performance across a product’s life cycle.
Focusing on Hydroscand’s product portfolio and supported by Knightec’s expertise, you will investigate how structured data collection—integrated with ERP and CRM systems—can enable more efficient life cycle management. The goal is to outline how better information flows can support sustainability assessments, digital product passports, and future circular business models.
Purpose
Core focus areas:
- Conduct a pre-study to propose a structured solution for information gathering.
- Analyze and synthesize findings to form conclusions and a recommended solution direction.
- Investigate success factors and challenges, including the value required for internal stakeholders.
- Develop solution concepts.
- Visualize how the proposed solution integrates into the current and/or future business model.
- Evaluate, select, refine, and deliver a final solution and written report.

Who are we looking for?
- Two M.Fa / M.Sc students in Product Development, Sustainability, Circular Design, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or equivalent.
- Strong interest in product development and circular design.
- Fluent in Swedish and English.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively.
- Hybrid or full-time on-site presence at Knightec in Stockholm.
- The thesis work may be published and used for both personal portfolios and company communication.
- A portfolio is appreciated as part of the application.
Detailed Requirement Specification
The thesis should evaluate potential system solutions for structured information gathering, including:
- Use of a blank tag completed by service technicians, with the option to add information later.
- AI-based tools that read, interpret, and compile data inputs.
- System compatibility and synchronization with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (including the D365 service module).
- Processes for collecting customer information through service technicians.
- Consideration of poor connectivity conditions at customer sites.
- Integration of digital product passport requirements.
- Include life-cycle data on raw materials, certifications, and supplier information.
- Benchmarking against competitors and best-in-class industries (e.g., textile).
- A modular or technical solution capable of handling both supplier information and installation/customer data.
- Enable preventive maintenance, value generation, and clear selling points.
