Growing as an Embedded Software Consultant at Knightec Group Norway
Working as a consultant at Knightec Group Norway means navigating diverse projects, deepening cross-functional expertise, and contributing to solutions that go far beyond code. Kåre Tragethon, one of our Embedded Software Engineers reflects on the evolution of his role, the thrill of tackling new challenges, and the collaborative culture that makes continuous learning part of everyday work.
How would you describe your role and what you do in your daily work at Knightec Group Norway?
As an embedded software engineer, I specialize in developing embedded systems that meet both technical and customer requirements.
I collaborate with customers and colleagues to understand their needs and turn their high-level goals into functional products. I participate in broader system and solution discussions to understand the complete product, which helps me contribute more effectively.
How have you developed in your role since you started here?
I came from an industrial background focused on dedicated machine and control systems, so my expertise in embedded software development has grown significantly since joining Knightec Group.
The variety of customers and projects has deepened my knowledge and strengthened my contributions. Cross-department projects have broadened my understanding of mechanical and electromechanical systems, thanks to the expertise and generosity of my colleagues.
Unlike my earlier work within industrial vendor-specific systems, I now participate in the full development lifecycle—from concept to implementation—spanning hardware, software, and system integration.
What's the best thing about working as a consultant in engineering?
Every project is different—there's always a new challenge to solve.
For me, each project is a new universe: Defining its boundaries, populating it with components, and establishing rules of interaction. This creative process is exciting, rewarding and continuously expands my perspective.
